Parables of Jesus

This week in Te Kahu class we have been learning about the teachings of Jesus. First we did a who, what, where and when did Jesus teach, where we looked at 5 separate bible verses and answered the question who, what, where and when did Jesus teach this. That activity is on my seesaw if you want to check it out. Then the second task was to get in a group four and choose a parable from the slide and answer the different questions Who did Jesus teach, Where did he teach, the meaning of the parable and what did Jesus teach. And now I present to you our work.

Wanted Poster

This week in Te Kahu class we have been learning more about Jesus and the things he taught and how to be a good follower of him. The activity we did was create a wanted poster for followers of Jesus. I really enjoyed this activity because I got to get creative and make a poster. The checklist for the poster was that it had to have a photo, 5 good qualities of a follower and a fictional phone number. Now without further ado here is my work.

Rosie Raindrop: Turbulent Waters

One rainy day I Rosalyn (Rosie) Martha Raindrop fell to the ground at the point where the river thames starts. The first thing that I ever saw was a stone, a dark grey stone. I then rush off down the river. Stupendously sized  trees loomed over me creating shade for me. Soon I hear a sound that made me nervous, it sounded like a moo. When I look up I see a creature covered in black spots with milky white skin, it looked very cretinous. I stare at the creature and it stares back though it stared very stupidly with its big  brown eyes. The scenery was anything but stupid it was magnificent, with flowers of multiple colors ranging from red to purple all dancing in the cool breeze, there were massive trees filled with brown pinecones , at least I thought they were pinecones (I was born 45 minutes ago and I barely know anything what did you expect).

As I am flowing down the river I notice my surroundings, the area around me was mostly stodgy but every so often I saw animals like sheep, elks  and even the occasional billy goat. There were immensely large woodland area littered with pinecones it was calm and peaceful. I then start to notice other shapes that looked similar to me I go closer to investigate. The closer I get the more excited I am because they were raindrops like me. " Hi I am Rosalyn Raindropd but you can call Rosie" I verbalized " I am new here umm, what's your name?." " My name is Jimmy" the tall raindrop answered "and this is Tina "  then he pointed to an old raindrop."Hi sugarcakes" said Tina.  "This is  Storm " said Jimmy pointing to green haired raindrop.   " Hi Rosie I am Storm" she stuttered. " And this is William Timothy Robert the Fourth but we call him Billy Bob for short." "Hi Rosie"  Said Billy Bob.  I started notice thing about them, Jim was tall and helpful he was always helping anyone that needed it. Tina was short and a bit lazy but she was the most knowledgeable in the group, she was also the eldest. She has been around since the Triassic period ! Storm was timid and shy but she was the most interesting to talk to, she has tonnes of cool experiences all around the world from Egypt to New Zealand; wherever that was. Billy Bob had the weirdest hairdo I had ever seen, he called it a mullet. He also said that he was from this country called Australia every called him "Mullet Man" he was also very loud and talkative but he was also caring and nonchalant. Me and my friends spent hours talking to each other and the conversations were very fun. I learned the name of the river we were traveling on, Thames. Which in my opinion is a stupid name. I really enjoy their company, soon we are more than stranger they are friends I can rely on.

The river was more calm the lights from the houses lit my way, the roars of motor engines were deafening, there were huge glass structures taller than anything that I have ever seen before. So this was London. " You know cities are dangerous" said Billy Bob. " People often pee on us  or even scoop us up" said Jimmy. "Thats awful" I replied. " What's even more awful is that" said Storm. I looked up and saw two guys, one was wearing clothes that covered all his body even his face, same with the other one except he was more menacing with a knife in his hand as told to me by Tina.  I asked " what's going on." " A fight" said Storm   "the other guy is gonna get stabbed."" But why" I said, " no raindrop knows why it just happens." " oh no the other guy is getting stabbed" I said. " Such is life" said Jimmy and then we went along our journey. As we went lower in the river, it started getting more rundown the air was filled with smog that was as black as coal and there was rubbish all on the ground, the people were gloomy and even behaved horribly to each other yelling, fighting and even stealing the water was calm yet murky. But soon the water started getting brutal. The sand from the river bed was spreading around the river and blinded and then I got sucked into a whirlpool. I was trapped and dizzy. I was nearly deaf from all the frantic yelling from my friends and other raindrops. To my shock and horror I realised that little raindrop children were in the whirlpool. Tears ran down their eyes like little waterfalls it was laborious to watch, It was very bumpy in the whirlpool multiple raindrops had terrible bruises everywhere, some were even unconscious dead or dying even me. I felt terrible I had a black eye and severe bruises on my body and worst of all I was paralysed. I couldn't move, every part of my body was extremely heavy and I was starting to lose consciousness. I saw something that inspired me to fight. My friends. They were trying to save me I must fight to stay alive.

My friends then came to me with a rope made out of algae they threw it at me then pulled me out. I was so tired that I fainted. When I regained consciousness, the whirlpool was gone and my friends were there looking at me. I was so happy that they had saved me. The rest of my journey was calm and went smoothly, it truly was a fun adventure.

Weekly Reflection : Week 6 Term 1

This week I did cool and interesting activities such as the A Day In The Life Of Sopee venn diagram, the See-Think-Wonder activity, PEEL paragraphs, Jam Board etc. This week the activities were more or less unexcited  but I have something I enjoyed this week that was Mahi Tahi.

My favourite activity this week was Mahi Tahi. This weeks Mahi Tahi was about creating a learning object themed around caring for Gods creation for a competition judged by Caritas a Catholic charity. As usual in mahi tahi we were going to this in a group my group consisted of Dallas T, Kayde, Druvika and me. My group was originally going to do a video on the subject but since basically everyone is making a video we decided to make a poem book instead.

Something I found challenging this week was keeping up to date with my work as we were often out of class doing something else. It was fun being out of class but it is also fun to get the satisfaction of getting my contract done.

I have worked toward some of my goal by getting more confident in multiple strategies for multiplication and division. Like the expand, multiply and regroup strategy which is on of my personal favourites.

The value of mercy means to show kindness and care to those who are less fortunate than you, I have shown mercy by helping out those who are less fortunate than me, like by playing with someone who was lonely.

Next week I am looking forward to doing more local curriculum learning. With our focus being on rivers I am very highly interested on what we will learn next.

See-Think-Wonder

This year in Te Kahu class we are doing something different, were doing a local curriculum. Now the local curriculum is a curriculum were instead of learning surface level stuff we get a deeper understanding and education of a subject for 10 weeks. This 10 weeks' subject is rivers. For the activity we watched 3 videos about rivers then we did a see- think- wonder were we write done what we saw what we l know or think and what we want to know. This is my work.

Term 1 Week 5 Reflection

This week I did sensational and interesting activities such as a boat that floats, word of the week, chapter chat, my pepeha activity etc every activity I did was very fun and stimulating. My favourite activity I did was a boat that floats even though timing my boats floating time is taking ages it is and will still be one of the most coolest activities I've done this year.

Something I really enjoyed doing was this weeks word of the week. Now this weeks word of the week was different to the other word of the weeks because this weeks one was not originally done digitally, It was a collaborative group task and instead of pronouncing the word we acted it out. The thing I enjoyed most was doing something new and interesting rather than the same old write the definition on a slide and post it o your blog.

Something I found challenging this week was doing my floating boat activity not because it was difficult to make it but it was annoyingly difficult to time it because last time I did it I got 5min 49s not because it sunk but  because we had to stop to go to mourning tea and this time I got to 30min 46s  before stopping to go to mourning tea. It is just simply annoying how much time it will probably take for it  to finally sink.

I have worked toward some of my goal by nearly completing my times table grid in basic facts the only ones I did not succeed in was 6,7,8 times tables . For next time I want to improve my time on basic facts and to better practice or figure out a trick to learning my 6, 7, 8 times tables.

The value of mercy means to show kindness and care to those who are less fortunate than you, I have done this by being a friend to those who do not have any company and being kind and helpful to all those around me.

I am looking forward to finishing my floating boat activity this or  maybe the next week, I am just curious to find out how long my boat the S.S KFC Plate can float. Plus it would be such a shame to leave such a cool activity unconcluded.

Week 5 Word Of The Week

This week in Te Kahu class our word of the week was a lot different than normal. This time we worked in a group of four and we were doing it against the clock. This weeks word of the week is sensational  and instead of doing it online we did it on a piece of paper. Doing it differently was so weird yet so fun. The group I worked with to complete this task was Roman, Max Dallas and I. Now the word of the week was also structured differently instead of definition, image and pronunciation and sentence it was definition, act it out, image, definition and sentence unfortunately the act it out was not videoed. without further ado here is my word of the week. The image we drew is a man on top moving vehicle felling sensational. The sentence is I was feeling sensational on the roller coaster.

Hunger Games Chapter Chat : Chapter 3

This year in Te Kahu class we will bee reading a dystopian novel series called The Hunger Games which was written by Suzzane Collins  and has been praised all around the world even earning 4 awards ( Fantasy & Science Fiction - Young Adult, California young reader: Young adult, Dorothy Canfield Fisher Children's Book Award , California young reader: Young adult and The Hal Clement award). Every time we have finished a chapter we will be doing something known as a Chapter Chat where we answer questions relating to the chapter. This is done so that the teacher can know if we can comprehend and be up to date with the story. We show this by answering  and  choosing 4 question out of ten questions in each slide which has question for each chapter. With out further ado here is my  Chapter Chat.

With Katniss being gone Prim will not be able to take her place and hunt. She won’t be able to do it because she is inexperienced and because she is too emotional about killing animals this is shown in the part of the book when Katniss takes Prim hunting and she kills a deer Prim begs Katniss to save the deer. But likely she is able to trade items for food and has enough good reputation to survive.

Madge gives and insists Katniss wears a mockingjay pin on her chest though she does not tell Katniss why, but Katniss thanks it is a symbol to remind her that The Capitol can still fail and reminds her of her late father and his comforting voice

The reason why a mockingjay is an insult to The Capitol is because the mockingjay is descended from the jabberjays. The jabberjays were created by The Capitol to spy on rebels and enemies of The Capitol by recording their entire conversations. This backfired when rebels figured out about jabberjays, so The Capitol let them out into the wild where they mated with mockingbirds and created the new species mockingjay which are able to record sounds and human tones and no longer able to record words and conversations.

Week 4 Literacy Follow up : Story Summary

Last week in Te Kahu class we did group work for literacy. For the group work  we read a book called Rongoā For The Land. This is my summary of the text.

Long ago when the first settlers came from Hawaiki to New Zealand they set up a project called the Ahikorou Project. Which helped the old  ancestors for generations by sustaining  essential plant life needed for survival.

America's Cup Wordle

This week in Te Kahu who's week in we have been learning about the America's Cup. This activity involved listing facts and putting them in a wordle. Here is my presentation.

Term 1: Week 4 Reflection

The highlight of my week this week was making my boat, S.S KFC Plate. The reason I named my boat that is because it looks like a paper plate that KFC gives out. The task this boat was from is STREAM, the task was to make a boat out of only paper using only scissors and tape. The reason why I enjoyed this task so much was because it made me use my ingenuity and creativity.

One  challenge I had was doing the Sudoku activity. The Sudoku activity was hard and I was really struggling but I also worked on it by trying to do it on a piece of paper at home luckily soon enough I cracked it.

This week I have walked more in the footsteps of Jesus by helping people with their work like telling others what to do, helping others and giving them examples.

I have shown the value of mercy by being kind and compassionate to others. Like helping them in any sort of manner and being caring to others.

Term 1: Week 3 Reflection

The highlight of my week last week was going to tech. Going to tech was fun and exciting and at tech I learned new things like making 3d shapes.

This week I found nothing to be really challenging some honourable will be drawing 3d shapes and the longest paper task a task in which we created long strands of paper by ripping it.

Something I want to work on next week is put more effort into my work by making it look pretty E.g colouring my work in, drawing pictures on my work and all around being more creative in presentation.

I show mercy this week by helping others with there learning.

Something I am looking forward to net week is doing more STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading ?, Engineering, Arts and Maths) tasks. An activity were we critical think to achieve a goal. It is very similar to Mahi Tahi except that we do it independently.

Wednesday 17 February 2021

Week 2 Term 1 Reflection

What was the highlight of you week ? The highlight of my week last week was getting accepted into the Special Character Team. It was such an honour when Whaea Danni read out my name and Mrs Carey handed me my certificate.

What was something you found challenging ? Something I found challenging this week was completing my Waitangi puzzle. The puzzle involved doing 3 parts writting the answers, cutting out the individual pieces and gluing the puzzle together. The task wasn't as hard as it was annoying because it took an egregious time to cut and glue in.

What was one success you had ? One success I had was doing my mercy values slide even though it only  took me 30 minutes to it still came out really good. Another success I had last week was the spelling test I tried hard and I got a good result I am now in the hardest spelling group, the red group.

Last week I didn't really learn anything new or interesting, the only really new thing I learned was the  mercy values but there is not a lot to wright about really.

Something I'm looking forward to next week is going to another getting to do my duties as a member of the Special Character Team, I am really looking forward to go to my first meeting.

Word Of The Week

This week in Te Kahu we have word of the week which is when we define and pronounce a word. This weeks word is cocophony. Here is my presentation.

Mercy Values

Today in Te Kahu class we have been learning about mercy values. The activity we had to do was mostly uninteresting but the part were you create a presentation to show the values was the best. The activity we did was summarise all 6 of the mercy values Social Justice, Respect, Hospitality,Excellence, Service and Compassion. Here is my summary.

Weekly Reflection: week 1 Term 1

At the start of the week I felt excited and happy because I got to socialise with my friends again but then I felt sickly and ailing because I was sick with an abnormal chest infection, I tried to stay strong but eventually I collapsed, figuratively of course, by the end of morning tea time I was in a hospital bed wearing a hospital gown while sitting on a wheelchair (the wheelchair was unnecessary).

The highlight of my week was signing up for leadership activities I put most of my effort on Special Character Team but I also signed up for House Captain, I am really excited to get a responsibility and to serve the school. I  am really hoping to get into the Special Character Team.

Something I found challenging was being away from school because of my illness, I found it really challenging not to be with my friends or learning new things for most of the week.

I am really looking forward to getting a leadership role, I really want pay it forward to my school, for all the things they have done for me and i really want to get some responsibilities.

The End
